Join us for a bike ride and see the campus from a different perspective on a tandem or a hand cycle. This program is designed for those with mobility impairments as well as for others that would like to experience the activity of hand cycling and tandem cycling. Join the Counseling Center clinicians Dave Leon, LCSW and Natasha Olmos, MA in an informal discussion about mental illness, including the process of diagnosis, the etiology of the illnesses, and the negative impact of stigma on individuals with mental illness and society’s perception of these challenges. Presenters will identify and challenge commonly held myths about mental illness and provide time for discussion and questions. No RSVP required

Raising Kate, Autism is all the news today. But in 1985 it wasn’t the case. An artist and mother tells’ her story, blending narrative with creation of her collage portraits. Options for Kate narrow as adulthood approaches, but, like in a work of art, there are unexpected surprises. Tints of Autism, is a portrait of three young adults with autism tell us about themselves and their aspirations. This program is co-sponsored by the UCOD, the On-Campus Housing Council, and Pathway. This is a panel discussion aimed at providing the audience members with the philosophy and movement of Neurodiversity as it applies to autism and new ways of thinking about autism. The discussion will also include dialogue about autism-related issues and controversies, comparing the social and medical models of autism in areas like media, advocacy organizations, therapies, science, and medicine.
